“It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.” Proverbs 25:2
Great leaders seek to know God and understand His ways.
“Thus says the Lord: ‘Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 9:23-24
To be a great leader in your church:
1. Pursue and Practice What God Delights In
God practices steadfast love through the faithful keeping of His covenant promise to us in Christ. Great leaders are steadfast in their devotion to God. Great leaders are also true to their word to others because God’s is faithful to His Word.
God practices justice through right judgment. Great leaders stand on the side of what is right and true in their decisions and dealings. God maintains his justice in all of His dealings, to the point of crucifying Christ for the punishment of sin. Romans 3:26 says that God’s righteousness is on display in His justification of sinners through Christ.
God practices righteousness in all that He does. He is righteous, meaning He is holy, right, good, and without fault in every way. Great leaders pursue holiness because God is Holy. (1 Peter 1:16, Lev. 11:44) Great leaders consumed with being right with God through imitating Christ, instead of other people knowing they are “right.
2. Give God Glory In All That You Do
God delights in those who seek Him, understand Him, and obey Him. Great leaders know that the good work being done is the result of God’s faithfulness to keep His promises and not the extraordinary effort of men. Paul writes in 2 Cor. 10:17 “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” In Paul’s ministry, his boasting was not in his works, though even he admitted he had quite a resume of works. Instead, Paul understood and quoted Jeremiah 9:24, that the only name worth glorifying on earth is the one name that is greater than all names- The Name Of Jesus!
Like a great King a great leader searches out the mysteries of God for the benefit of his people.
