5.3.17 Growing on the Go- Episode #8

Welcome to Growing on the Go! Helping you live on mission today Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

Colossians 3:1–3 (ESV) says,

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

In this passage, Paul addresses both the desires and the thoughts of a Christian. When he says in the first verse, to seek the things that are above, he means that your passions or your desires should be for the things of God.

In the second verse, Paul directs us to set our minds or our thoughts on the things that are above. Another way to look at this is to say that in the first verse you are told to desire what God desires, and in the second verse you are to value what God values.

Whatever you desire and value will set the course and direction for your life, and this happens through the accumulation of your days, weeks, months, and years.

As a Christian, you are to be intentional with how you live your life. You should establish your life around the direction and teachings of Scripture. In addition, you should seek to put to death any desire or value that contradicts God and His Word.

Following Christ and living on mission requires a purposeful approach to life. As you go through your day today follow the direction of God’s Word in this passage:

  1. Seek the things that are above by being passionate about what pleases the Lord
  2. Set your mind on things that are above by focusing your mind and attention to God’s Word
  3. Surrender your will and life to the Lord today, and every day.

I’ll see you next time as we continue Growing on the Go.
